5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book!, January 9, 2013
The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap is a truly amazing book considering it Paulette Mahurin’s first. She writes with all the sophistication of a seasoned pro. I truly loved that modern cultural themes such as bigotry, homophobia, etc are set not only in the 1800’s but in a small rural town where many of those themes never really would have been an issue in that day and time. Yet here they are and they manage to bring all those ugly themes and put them right in your face. I found myself enthralled with characters and unable to put the book down.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap
The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.
Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. That’s so sweet of you to say. Very appreciated! Just visited your site and read some wonderful things you had to say. Hope others will pop over there also and have a look at this. http://lornasvoice.com/how-was-i-supposed-to-know-a-memoir/
Thanks! I just put that up. I’m shooting for getting the ebooks available 1/13/13–this Sunday. I’m pretty sick right now, but my guy is a computer wiz and he’s helping me when he’s not at work.
Wow, that’s exciting. This Sunday! Wishing you tons of success. Feel better.
Thanks! On both counts…
You must be rightfully pleased with that 🙂
More to come I should imagine !
Hello poppytump. I feel very grateful that the book has been well received for two reasons; the tolerance message and that profits are going to animal rescue. Thank you.
