About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. (see links below on Ventura County Star Article & Shelter) To find out more please go the The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap on facebook or Amazon or e-mail us at the gavatar addresses. Thank you. • Thank you so much! Now, fingers & paws crossed this translates to our fury friends into forever homes. I keep repeating that snapping my heels together like in the Wizard of Oz…there’s no place like home. 🙂

      • Alison says:

You must never never travel to any 3rd world country. You will find so many homeless fury friends I think it would break your heart.
I think there’s a good probability snapping heels will do the trick!

      • Nah, snapping anything from a fury wouldn’t deter me. I’ve been to Africa and carry the heartache with me as a reminder and inspiration, toward animals and humans. It’s a good and sorrowful lesson of what one has to let go of, that they can do nothing about. Why are all the good lessons so painful, lol? But…to be fair and honest, I’m not all that sure about snapping teeth on my heels. And, come to think of it, not even positive all the good lessons come from pain. I’m having some great moments of humility and gratitude with this surprise with Amazon here today. But, ‘nuf outta me. Love to you, friend. 🙂

  11. Alison says:

Love how we both keep spelling furry as fury lol. Sometimes it takes fury, eh?

  12. There should be a party with Mildred. No, wait, maybe just a nice glass of iced tea with home made cookies. And we should drop in after she accepts our request, and then, only a visitor at a time. 🙂 To enjoy actual conversation.
