Midas got loose and was brought to SPARC, many miles from where his home is. Was reunited with his family through his microchip! Thank goodness he was chipped.
The dog was lost in Ventura while owner was on vacation. She was brought to Camarillo shelter (a kill shelter) where she was spayed and microchipped. A Santa Paula resident adopted her but unfortunately through changing circumstances had to bring the dog to SPARC knowing that it would be safe as we are No Kill. We had the dog for about a week when our FB post was seen by a long lost friend of the original owner who then contacted her and she was at our center within the hour!!!Reunited here. Happy happy dance.

Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. I love the stories about pets being reunited with their owners; a good reason to have a microchip.
I was so excited when I saw the one about the dog being lost for THREE years that I just had to share it and just as I was downloading it I saw the microchip story. I love that! Both of mine and all future will be chipped. Such an easy thing to do and avoids huge heartache in the event of. 🙂
So true. All the animals we adopt out are microchipped before they leave!
Same with all the shelters here that I know of. 🙂

Great to hear of the adoptions and the two reunited dogs. Micro chipping all dogs and cats really is the way to go. It’s a requirement for all who undertake international travel but reuniting strays is the most powerful reason to do it.
You can say that again, all of it. For so little huge heartache gets avoided…
My eldest phoned me this morning, wondering if they should get me another dog. I’m still very sad about my old man, but when I do feel ready, I will get a rescue animal of some kind. Both them and me need to feel needed 😉
When it’s right it’ll happen, like magic. One day you’ll just gravitate to where that fury kid awaits you and that’ll be it, that place — that need, will be filled in the most magical way. In the meantime, honoring your insides, soothing the all too nearness of your fury old man’s moving on to the rainbow bridge and just taking care of you sounds like where it’s at for you. Have a good weekend. 🙂

An amazing story and thankfully now back she’s now back with her original owner. Wish she would have been micro-chipped to begin with.
A lot of heartache might have been avoided had the dog been micro-chipped. And, what a lucky break it was adopted from the Camarillo shelter which is a kill shelter. Scary story with a thankfully happy ending.

Our pets have always been rescues and they’ve been the greatest. We couldn’t have asked for better additions to the family.
