Heartwarming video of the rescue and saving of kitty Spirit:

And, here’s spirit doing better helping Stephanie, the shelter

coordinator. Here’s what SPARC wrote about Spirit:

Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center Spirit is not for adoption Spirit is staying with Stephanie, our Shelter Coordinator until he is medically cleared and not critical. Donations would be appreciated and very helpful, so that SPARC may continue to care and support Spirit and other animals in need as well.

Spirit staying with shelter coordinator till not criticalI just mailed them the third check this month, from incredible sales of the book. Spirit, SPARC Staff, all the furry animals they’ve saved and will continue to save, and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all who bought a book, wrote a review, spread the word, and helped to shine a light on animal rescue. Blessings to all.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. (see links below on Ventura County Star Article & Shelter) To find out more please go the The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap on facebook or Amazon or e-mail us at the gavatar addresses. Thank you. 2. Animals touch my heart and bring me to my knees quicker than anything. They are so precious and trusting. Might I add, forgiving. Thanks for a great article.

Brilliant news P – just like the motivator behind receiving good news such as this.
    Long may it continue!

Watched them all. Liked the dogs called Larry and Jerry πŸ™‚

    • I know, that one cracked me up, he couldn’t remember their names and kept making them up, lol. Reminded me of a time I was working and a mom delivered twins. I asked another nurse (with a better sense of humor than me) what their names were and she said, “Pete & Repete” lol. One of my favorites, probably cause I can remember it. πŸ™‚

Such heart warming videos thank you for sharing them. Take care, Bill

    • So glad you got to see them. Always love sharing with you, Bill. I’m loving that SPARC is pulling in the celebrity talent to help — to help get furries into homes! I love that. A lot of our local and LA based TV stations show pets up for adoptions from various shelters around. I love when the powers that be pitch in to increase awareness and help with the problem. πŸ™‚

  7. Love the videos πŸ™‚ really warms the heart.

Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC), the first and only No Kill shelter in Ventura County, is celebrating its One Year Anniversary on Saturday, June 15th from 11am to 4pm at SPARC and Moose Lodge properties in historic Santa Paula.

Please join our Celebration as the Safest Place in America for Pets and help spread the word about this special event and the positive things SPARC is doing for the animals of Santa Paula and the people who love them. With a 99.5 percent save rate, Santa Paula is also celebrating its status as Southern California’s first and only No Kill community.

FOX Good Day LA’s TV personality Mar Yvette will be the Master of Ceremonies for this festive family event. She’s been a champion for animals for many years and is excited to be a part of this celebration. Mar recently featured SPARC on the Good Day LA morning show with supporter Cesar Millan and the Cesar Millan Foundation. You can view the actual TV segment at

Media, community members and the public are invited to enjoy food, drinks, and fun as they groove to live music by Grupo Fantasia, as well as performances by the groups Standard Deviance and The Freeways. Classic solo composer and performer, Marc Irving Weber, will provide the backdrop for the Santa Paula Chevrolet children’s play area. KHAY Radio will do a Live Remote broadcast from Noon until 2pm with giveaways. And SPARC will provide a tour of the shelter and special adoption prices that day.

It’s National Pet Month and Mar Yvette is visiting the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center with Cesar Millan who is showing us how to pick the perfect pet for our lifestyle, how important training is.

  9. I love that they are: “open admission” that sounds like no animal is turned away. Coco is quite the star. Shared the pretty girl–Heather..:)–to FuhBeebs. You go with your bad self, Paulette. >^^<

    • Hi there. I’m not exactly sure what the “open admission” translates to because they do have a certain legal capacity that they can’t exceed. I don’t know if they have fosters or what they do, but do know that any animal they take in does not get euthanized or transferred to a facility that does, as far as I know. This is one of the reasons I support them, to help bring awareness to no-kill shelters because we need more, many many more. Big hug to you.
