The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap nominated by The Rainbow Project

I’m thrilled that The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap has been nominated by The Rainbow Project to be considered for their 2014 list. This is a great honor.

The Rainbow Book List is a joint project of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table and the Social Responsibilities Round Table of the American Library Association. The Rainbow Book List presents an annual bibliography of quality books with significant and authentic GLBTQ content, which are recommended for people from birth through eighteen years of age.

Rainbow Book List Committee Procedures are located on the committee description page under the Procedure heading on the American Library Association web site.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. • This is really is quite an honor. It’s humbling. The person or persons who nominated it was the first second step in the long process to make it to their list. Now it goes to the entire committee to read, gulp. If they approve it, then it goes on the 2014 list. Won’t know that till next January. The thing that absolutely thrills me is if it does make it to the list it has the gold seal to be read by LGBT children. That to me, to even be considered for this, is such a thrill. Big hugs and so happy to share it with you and rest of my cyber family. πŸ™‚
