Before I Sleep

HAPPY SUNDAY FRIENDS

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. This was wonderful, I had commented directly back to Colleen earlier, but thank you for reblogging this. Take care, Bill

    • Hi Bill! That’s so nice of you to stop by here also. Someone once posted something asking for responses on what their followers felt was the most important thing they could think of. What came up for me was kindness. I don’t know why that ranks top, even above love, health, longevity, communications with friends & family, having my fundamental needs met… But, I remember a cancer patient I worked with long time ago, who was in the hospital dying, a wise and wonderful woman, that I shall never forget. She was so kind to everyone, the janitor, the nurses, the doctors; she had the gift to bring out the best in all of us. She’d have staff taking breaks in her room to visit with her, while she told stories. I loved her, Bill. Her kindness did something wonderfully special to my heart (which at that time was pretty shut down-another long story). I could go on and on and on but every time I see an act of kindness, however simple, it opens my heart a little bit wider. Whether a smile, a friend stopping by to comment, someone rescuing a dog or a baby, taking the time to give to someone who needs it, donating money if they have it, biting their caustic remarks and tongue when it would only hurt someone to let it out, tolerance & acceptance of others even in the face of disagreement or adversity, etc.

Had no idea all this would come out of me but then we do like to chat, lol.

Big cyber hug to you and STAY WELL!

    I love this, it’s wonderful! πŸ˜€

    • Me too. You know where I’m at with kindness. I just blah blahed my head off here to Bill, lol. I honestly believe it is kindness that can change the world, one person at a time. There now I’ve outed a belief I have, lol.

Happy Sunday, Ela, Mats & Tara.

Love your story to Bill, it’s wonderful and you ARE kindness personified! Kindness is the only religion we need. πŸ˜€
It’s Monday morning, so Goodnight, bedtime for me, Tara’s asleep! πŸ™‚

      • You’re in my future, lol. So disorienting but then that’s so silly because here we are, not defined by where the sun rises and sets, lol. Nighty night ya’ll.

Whether you are a religious believer or one of a higher power, whatever your choice… like words or thoughts should be every man’s credo, in every walk of life. Thus so for the sake of this minor planet’s livable survival for the future generations of all this world’s creatures. For said creatures ought to have at least no less than we have had up to now, though alas most of which we have, if not naively, flagrantly and self-servingly destroyed. Thank you for the reminder Paulette and The Chatter Blog. JJ

  6. Have prayed similar all my life but seems God’s phone off the hook.

  8. This is wonderful. Amen to that.

  9. You are kindness defined. Witnessing it, knowing it’s potential to change, appreciating it and extending it. Thank you Paulette for all of your kindnesses. πŸ™‚
