About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap
The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.
Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. I’m seeing a lot of these now, Paulette, & I do vote, but it’s beginning to make me sorry these shelters have to go to such lengths, drumming up online support, votes & so on JUST FOR A GRANT. I believe they should give grants out, after looking at what shelters do/reputation/track record. I mean here in Australia I can hardly pick the best shelter, & only vote because of those gorgeous doggy or kitty faces.
I’m just wishing they could all get a grant, not have to beg so much.
I know what you mean, and boy fundraising is not for the faint at heart but I think especially with causes like helpless animals people are willing top step up and be their voices their support because they can’t, and they give so much back. Animals, our furry/feathery pets, get into our hearts and motivate us to do things that might not otherwise see daylight. Honestly, Noeleen, I wish there was enough money to go around for every human being to have a roof and food, every animal to have food and a chance at life outside a cage without having to ask for itβ¦ but unfortunately I’m a dreamerβ¦ Always appreciate your sentiments, my friend.
Any animal lover is my friend. Bless you for the love of animals you have.
Thank you! I’m always happy to make another animal loving friend. You’re always welcome in my cyber home. Paulette π
