Can You Help With A French Translation?

Hello friends,

If there’s anyone out there that speaks French and has a little

time I have a one page document that I need translated and have not

been able to figure out the on line way to do it. It’s the biography

of Lucie Dreyfus, Alfred Dreyfus’ wife. Thank you to anyone who

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives.     Copy it…go to google translate and put in French to English and it will give you a text block to paste in, the interpretation will pop up to the right. I just tried it and it worked great, but I wouldn’t want to copy such a long document in your comments.

    Also, I think that is German, and up at the top it asks if you want it translated to English, click there and it will translate for you.

    I came late to the party…clinked the link and found German…but your problem was solved!

    There’s a book on Mme. Dreyfus in english…
    ‘Madame Dreyfus an appreciation’ by Josephine Lazarus published in New York in 1899:
    Dreyfus letters to his wife were published in english in New York in the same year by the then Harper and brothers,
    and there is a collection of the letters between husband and wife in French from 2005
    ‘Ecris-moi souvent, ecris-moi longuement’

      This is a big help, Helen. Once finished with my second book, which is at the editor’s now, I’m working on a story about Lucie Dreyfus and her attempts to get Zola to write an article to expose the cover-up of her husband. It was the backdoor attempt that got the facts into court exonerating Dreyfus and causing Zola to flee the country. It’s a fascinating story with very little of Mme. Dreyfus’ involvement known. It was she, her perseverance, that ultimately freed her husband. I’m assuming this is known to you. If you know of any other books, reference sites, that may be of help that would be very appreciated. I do not speak French, therein is my challenge. Thankfully, it will be fiction.     Lucie Hadamard est né le 23 Août 1869 à Chatou, dans la banlieue de Paris, est né. Votre père dévot était un diamant riche marchand, son frère était le mathématicien Jacques Hadamard .     Alfred Dreyfus était le fils d’une famille d’industriels de l’Alsace . Comme la région Alsace en 1871 après la guerre franco-allemande de la nouvellement fondée Empire allemand est venu, ses parents ont opté pour le maintien de leur nationalité française et se sont installés en 1872, une partie de la famille à Paris. Voici Dreyfus a mis l’examen de fin d’études ( baccalauréat ) à partir de 1878 et a été l’examen d’entrée à la traditionnelle polytechnique de l’École , qui était alors principalement des agents techniques, par exemple, pour l’ artillerie , formés. Il était un officier de carrière comme un artilleur et en raison de ses résultats scolaires en 1890 à l’ École supérieure de guerre été ajouté. Avec son mari, elle a continué à se battre pour l’honneur de son mari. L’erreur de jugement a été levé en Juillet 1906, réhabilite son mari et pris comme un major de l’armée française. Peu après, il a été nommé Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur.

    Lucie Dreyfus a survécu à son mari par près de dix ans. Au cours de leur lutte pour l’honneur de son mari, elle était de la soi-disant Dreyfusianern – les gens qui étaient convaincus de l’innocence de son mari – vénérés comme une épouse exemplaire et mère exemplaire.

    Sous le régime de Vichy Lucie Dreyfus retraite à Toulouse en arrière, la ville d’où est venu son fils. Mais cette famille a été dispersée sous la pression de la persécution des Juifs aux quatre vents. Après quelques errances dans le sud de la France a finalement trouvé son, sous le nom de code Mme Duteil, un asile dans la maison de retraite des religieuses de Valence et ne pouvait donc l’ Holocauste survivre. Après la libération du pays, elle est revenue avec son plus jeune fille Simone à Paris, gravement malade.

      Both worked! Thank you so much! I’ve been walked through a series of errors on my part with the help of my great cyber friends here. First I thought the language was French and the translation didn’t work. Then I discovered it was German and I copied the entire text into the box to translate but now with this from you I see that I could have gone to Google Translate and copied the link into the translate box and viola the English link showed up in the translate box. Am grateful for your and all the help here from so many loving cyber friends. Thank you!! Happy weekend to you and Marianne. 🙂

    When you open the link, you must then click on ‘ allow ‘ in the top right hand corner, or it will just keep showing ‘ translating ‘ and not open the wikipedia…

    If you are using Google Chrome, it will automatically ask you if you want it translated – if not – simply right-click and in the menu, left-click Translate to English.

    I think it’s awesome how complete strangers are willing to offer help others. Writers, artists, musicians, etc., are very generous loving people. The cyber world can be a scary place, but it also can be a wonderful amazing place. Good luck.
