RECENT REVIEWS FOR THE SEVEN YEAR DRESS

This book shows the strength of the human spirit to survive. I have read quite a bit on this period in history, and wondered , how ordinary people found the strength to survive the horrors of Nazi Germany, and how the people were led to the sheer horror that occurred without there being more of an outcry, but then I realize that Hitler did it slowly and methodically, until he had brainwashed them to think it was the norm. Makes me frightened for our own country that we are accepting elected officials that don’t seem to share the American Dream of our forefathers, it only seems to take one mentally disturbed person to set chaos into action.

This story tugged at my heart several times while reading.
I know from my history studies the terror suffered by Jews during the reign of Adolf Hiler.
I have also read stories written by other authors about life in those times.
I visited Germany a few times as a tourist and love that country.
On the surface it is beautiful and the people are very friendly.
However, it is clear from the museums and places of interest which we visited that the dark days of Hilter have not been forgotten.
Some of the names of places referred to in the book are very familiar to me.
In Berlin, I took a photo at the Brandenburg Gate.
We stayed at a hotel in Kurfurstendamn.
When we arrived in Berlin we landed at the airport in West Berlin, but we left via the airport at East Berlin.
The cab driver told us his family story while taking us to the airport and the events he related were similar in some ways.
The story of Helen Stein told by the author Paulette Mathurin was very touching and she related it well.
This story will live in my mind for a very long time especially as I can connect it to places in Berlin that I visited.
I recommend this book to all.

A very honest account of an unimaginable life and will to survive in such horrific circumstances. It is no wonder that some choose to deny that it could ever have occurred but thankfully there are writers like Paulette Mahurin to continue to confirm the lives of the millions who were silenced.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. (see links below on Ventura County Star Article & Shelter) To find out more please go the The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap on facebook or Amazon or e-mail us at the gavatar addresses. Thank you. Wow on the dogs and great reviews.

  2. Francina says:

such lovely dogs and what a good and great news, Paulette ❤

  3. I know there’s a saint for animals. But is there a specific saint for dogs? Well, there is now.

  4. Littlesundog says:

I never tire of seeing those happy mugs, and the soulful eyes of those four-legged kids. My heart is always happiest for the older dogs to find homes. You are a kind soul, my friend. What a loving heart you have.

    • I feel the same about the elderly dogs. It’s so sad when after giving a lifetime to a family they are thrown in a cage and left alone among howling, crying, barking others just like them. My hats off to those to rescue the elderly and infirm. They are the real angels. There are a lot of really good people out there, you among them. You make my heart feel lighter. ❤

  5. We had cats named Sonny & Cher as kids – except Sonny was the girl, and Cher was the boy.

    • Cute, I like that. I love all these names people give their fur babies. Some have interesting stories, like a friend of mine who named her dog Freeway. He’s lucky to be with the family who rescued him. ❤

      • Oh, I can guess at Freeway’s story! Ours seem to have had lots of names based on famous people. Choppy and Schooner are both named after places we love (a street in New Orleans and a bar in Key West), which I think is a fun way to name a pet!

      • Yes, the Freeway name is pretty self-explanatory. Max and Bella are named after my neighbors growing up, who were like second parents to me. And I really loved them a lot. At our age, we’re not sure how many more dogs we’ll have and thus a kind of thank you to a wonderful couple of people from my past. ❤

  6. Lara/Trace says:

    Love all you do! ❤

  7. We are always astonished how cruel some people can be and it breaks our heart that it is like it is. On the other hand there are also good hearted people, like you, dear Paulette, and all the people who rescued these wonderful creatures of God and that makes us very happy. Now, can you tell me the name of the stylist of Sonny and Cher, I love to have a jacket like that ❤ Extra double Good Luck Pawkisses to you all 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Good morning my sweet friend. I hear you about the human condition. Thank goodness for good, kindhearted people helping to create a balance so all our hearts don’t permanently break, not just from the treatment of animals but how we treat each other. All we can do is take care of our own business, try to do the best we can, and hope that in doing there a few rippling acts of kindness are generate. You did that today with your kind words to me. On days when I feel it’s all too much and the pain of seeing those sad faces makes me want to turn my computer off and never go back, I get a sweet communication like yours and it keeps me going.

I went to the place where I make pledges and sound the info on the woman who rescued Sonny and Cher, if you’d like to try to contact her. Her name is Briget Lowe and she runs Guardian Angel Pet Rescue, Inc., 217 Loretta Way, Calimesa, Ca. I don’t have a phone number. I hope this helps. I’m sure if you go on line and look up chi outfits or kitty outfits you’ll find things you like.

Have a great week my pawsome friend.

Many pawkisses to you Binky and granny ❤

      • Thank you for the info, Paulette, we will look into it. We are heartbroken too sometimes, we can’t even look at the news anymore, when it comes to cruelty of animals 😥 But we’re glad that you feel a little better, we always do too, when we get a sincere word of others. Pawkisses for a wonderful weekend to all of you 🙂 ❤

      • Many pawkisses and wagging tails back to yall and wishes that your weekend is a happy one. ❤
