530 dogs rescued from kill shelters

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has purchased, read, and taken the time to review one of my books. All profits from my books go to help get dogs like Sinbad, Misty, Bixby, Murphy, Sheldon, Nico, Jerzey, Echo, Emiline, Amigo, Mitchell, Dawson, Spielberg and Rocket (see photos below) out of kill shelters. So far in 2017 we’ve helped free 530 dogs. In 2016, 250 dogs were freed. In 2015, 148 dogs were freed.

AND please for everyone who’s purchased a book could I humbly ask you to write a review when you’ve completed the read.  Amazon promotes and ranks books according to number of reviews in addition to sales. Every voice helps spread the word and that is an energy that can help a dog.

This is an amazing book. While the book is loosely based on truths one can empathize with the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes World War 2 books.

TOP 10 REVIEWERon 8 June 2017
The Seven Year Dress by Paulette Mahurin was a poignant and engaging book following German girl, Helen Stein’s life from a carefree youth, to adolescence, to concentration camp under the Third Reich and finally being a survivor of the horrors of war and the inhumanity that was, the Holocaust. The story was a book of historical fiction, but the real Helen wrote the Forward, so it had a firm basis in truth which was cleverly and seamlessly woven throughout.
Given the theme, the narrative was certainly a challenging one, but a real page-turner as the writing, plot, pacing, reseach, imagery and character development were of a very high standard.
Paulette delivered a powerful message regarding the unconquerable human spirit, but readers should be aware that there are many confronting scenes of horror, cruelty and antisemitism, as would be expected. In addition, the story depicted personal fantasies and dark behaviours that the author may have included as an extension of human behaviour, given the times and circumstances.
This was my first Paulette Mahurin read. She seems to be a natural story-teller as she gradually unfolded information in a timely fashion and, while never preachy, she offered reflections and raised issues to ponder. Her style was conversational, yet a touch lyrical and fluid, so it came across as realistic, emotional and tragic, but relatable and even warm at times.
I highly recommend The Seven Year Dress to readers who are interested in the era, but are mentally and emotionally prepared for such a distressing and brutal subject.

Misty has been rescued. A photo is worth a thousand words. When professional photographer John Hwang saw Misty an elderly dog so sad in her kennel cage, he snapped this picture. It went wild on social media and she was rescued by a wonderful group, Leashes for Love. She’s now happy in her new home.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. (see links below on Ventura County Star Article & Shelter) To find out more please go the The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap on facebook or Amazon or e-mail us at the gavatar addresses. Thank you.
