Amazing, well written account of a Holocaust survivor who found strength to keep going and live.

I have read many Nazi survivor stories and this one was very unique. Not because it had a different beginning, middle or end. Different because of HOW it was told. I could really FEEL everything Helen experienced. Well written and worth the read.
on July 18, 2017
This was a “could not put it down”story…based on historical holocaust facts which eventually were beginning to be told in the post war years…woven into a fictional web of once very happy, proud, family loving, Jewish citizens brutally forced to become less than animals in the horror of Nazi schizophrenic denigration, torture, and deceptions and for most, death! May this horrendous chapter of history never, ever, be repeated in even the smallest way!!

A story of torture and madness. Can human beings really do this to others? I hope never to know the answer to this. What I now know after reading this is ” The gift of life is what is important “

I really enjoyed this romantic novel. Loved the concept of writing a story from an historical picture and developing it into this readable book.

About The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. She practices women's health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. All profits from her book are going to animal rescue, Santa Paula Animal Shelter, the first and only no-kill shelter in Ventura County, CA, where she lives. (see links below on Ventura County Star Article & Shelter) To find out more please go the The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap on facebook or Amazon or e-mail us at the gavatar addresses. Thank you. Congrats! You deserve all the credit for your hard work and unconditional love for all animals! ❤

    • That’s so sweet of you to stop by and say. I’m but a very small part of a very big effort, networking with a lot of wonderful dog loving people. I’m truly grateful to do my small part and share it with all my great cyber pals, like you. 🙂

  4. Dear litte John Snow…reminds me of my old Batman.
Yes, it is a big effort…but you more than bear your part.

You’re nothing short of amazing. You may only be a part of what goes on but what a remarkable part.

Had we been in your neighborhood, your brand of healing might have saved our Kallista who died of a stroke a couple of weeks ago. She had just turned 12, which is only about half way for a Maine Coon feline… Her buddy Kaspar is still searching for her, every once in a while, as they were together since they were 4 months old.

  7. Littlesundog says:

I am particularly moved by your post this morning. It’s those little faces… unsure some of them, but trusting… again. This connection of animal and human is so important. Thank you so much Paulette, for making connections possible.

    • I completely agree with you about the human animal connection. We’re not all that far removed from each other. I learn more from my dogs than I do from most humans and value my relationship with them, with other animals, and nature immensely. That’s one of the many reasons I particularly love your posts. ❤

Reblogged this on Ms M's Bookshelf and commented:
I don’t know Paulette Mahurin personally but I’m beginning to feel like she’s a friend. I love her writing and I love that she rescues dogs from kill shelters with the proceeds from her books. It’s amazing what she’s able to accomplish and I love her for it. Look at these wonderful ‘freedom’ photos of rescued dogs and then find one her books that appeals to you and buy it! Help the work and enjoy a good book while you’re at it. Enjoy my Sunday Reblog!
